Corpus Christi Hope House began with a three-bedroom house for homeless pregnant women in 1987. We have four shelter buildings on Robinson Street with private bedrooms that can accommodate 23 women in addition to their dependent children and newborn babies. Our offices, the Gabriel Project community outreach program, life-skills training classroom, private counseling rooms, and food/clothing/diaper bank facilities are all located at our 7,500-square-foot main facility at 3226 Reid Drive. We served 17,917 clients in 2023, and over 16,000 clients have benefitted from our programs already this year in addition to 126 families that received Homeless Prevention Assistance. The need for our services has significantly increased during the past three years. We anticipate the demand for our services to continue to rise in the coming months as our community continues to be impacted by the economy, poverty, and homelessness.
Corpus Christi Hope House's programs focus on creating systematic change among homeless families, women, and single mothers to promote human dignity with compassion. We provide the training, counseling, and resources to empower our clients to accept responsibility and move toward total self-sustainability. We strive to be a "Force for Change" in making a difference in our community. Hope House is not just a shelter with bed space. Each resident is assigned a case manager to assess their situation, create and reach specific goals, and meet a minimum of six hours per week. Residents must take random drug/alcohol tests, attend bi-weekly life-skills training classes, obtain a GED, attend mandatory counseling sessions to meet their specific needs and abide by a curfew and shelter rules. During the day, residents must be at work or school, studying, looking for a job, or at the library or church. Live-in-house monitors provide supervision and guidance. Our goal is for our residents to have jobs, housing, and the life and parenting skills to become productive members of our community when they leave our shelters. When a single mother or family requests diapers, baby formula/items, furniture, or other assistance from our community outreach program, they must meet with one of our counselors to assess their needs, receive advise and provide a path forward. Our ministry empowers our clients by giving them the opportunity to accept responsibility, care for their children, further their education, obtain employment, and permanent housing, and become productive, self-sufficient members of our community.
The board of directors, staff, and volunteers of Corpus Christi Hope House extend our sincere appreciation to you and the members of Coastal Bend Community Foundation's Day of Giving Campaign. The Day of Giving is an integral part of our budget, please help us meet our match. We respectfully request that you send us your most generous contribution to our ministry through the campaign so that together we can provide: Hope for women who have no place to turn, Love for those who are abandoned and alone, and Faith by our Trust in God.
