COASTAL BEND DAY OF GIVING

New Life Refuge Ministries

About this Organization

Our refuge campus is a place of specialized, long-term, therapeutic care where child sex trafficking survivors can begin to heal and process their trauma. Our trauma-informed care program provides homes of normalcy that include loving house parents and daily family activities.

Our educational program utilizes a multi-platform approach to increase community awareness about recognizing and preventing child sex trafficking. We provide tools and training to promote community involvement and advocate to end the demand for child exploitation.

Our partners include local, state, and federal agencies and many community leaders in education, faith, and business. We work together to impact our communities positively, to provide support and healing to child survivors, and to identify and prosecute traffickers and buyers.

Established in 2011, New Life Refuge Ministries (NLRM) became a 501(c)(3) organization after our founder and Executive Director discovered that children were being trafficked here in our south Texas community. Since then, NLRM has provided public awareness programs, educational presentations, and training to community members such as: law enforcement, healthcare workers, hospitality employees, school faculty, and government organizations. NLRM was also instrumental in organizing the Texas Coastal Bend Border Region Human Trafficking Taskforce, created to advance collaborations between law enforcement, healthcare, and victim service providers and reduce the adverse outcomes of human trafficking for victims and for the Coastal Bend.

Since 2018, NLRM has operated the Braselton Home of Hope, a refuge home for female trafficking survivors ages 11-17, which is located on a 40+ acre campus in an undisclosed South Texas location. In 2022, we opened the doors of our second refuge home on the same campus, The Valero Home of Hope, thanks to a gracious grant from Valero. Also in 2022, we further developed our Independent Living Village for those children who have reached the age of 18 while in our program. The vision of the village came to fruition because Charity League of Corpus Christi selected NLRM as their annual fundraising campaign beneficiary. Upon completion of our New Life Refuge master plan, our campus will have several refuge homes and individual "Tiny home" facilities for child survivors of sex trafficking. This campus will continue the established NLRM refuge program which provides child survivors of sex trafficking with the therapy and counseling they require to heal and reclaim their lives. Specifically, we provide care to the survivor in 6 key areas of development: relational, physical, psychological, spiritual, educational, and transitional. The strategies we employ include evidence-based, proven practices such as Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI). One of our most successful healing programs is our Trauma-informed Equine Assisted Learning (TEAL), which continues to be very popular with our survivors.

New Life Refuge Ministries is a faith-inspired organization that has partners throughout the community, including churches of many denominations, although we are independent of any one specific church. All of our partners help us bring… Beauty from Ashes.
