Corpus Christi Fish for Life (CCFFL) is a 501(c)(3) faith-based nonprofit organization committed to instilling hope in communities. Established in 2010, we worked in collaboration with West Oso ISD to mentor and encourage at-risk youth while introducing them to opportunities within the city and surrounding areas. It didn't take long for the board of directors to discover these children needed more.
In 2019, CCFFL sponsored our first Back to School Shopping Event. We collaborated with JCPenney and West Oso Elementary to take 100 impoverished children shopping. Since then, we have doubled our efforts. In August of 2024, we hosted two Back to School Shopping Events for 200 students and added an additional elementary school. The store was closed for private shopping. CCFFL supplied volunteers with $100 gift cards to shop with kids. Volunteers guided the children as they selected school-appropriate clothing. In January, we will gather shoe sizes from the school's leadership team for our annual New Year! New Shoes! distribution event. For the 2025 year, our individual donors have pledged to provide 650 pairs of shoes. It's our way to help children start the new year out on the right foot!
In 2021, we broadened our outreach to address food insecurity through our Feeding Hungry Families initiative. Area hunters donated an abundance of game. Our challenge was finding donors to pay for processing, but find them we did. Throughout the 2022-2023 season, we processed over 31,000 pounds of whitetails, nilgai, and elk. Through a strategic partnership with the Coastal Bend Food Bank, we efficiently delivered these provisions to 175 pantries across 11 counties in South Texas. Our goal for 2025 is to double our impact.
